In the winter of 2013, I had heard whisperings of the removal of most of the remaining original Chicago Great Western trackage through St. Charles, IL. I was determined to see what was left, and find whatever relics I could find. I wasnt able to get there until late spring, just as the overgrowth began growing. What started as a walk to find relics turned into a historical recording of what was left up to that time. Since I had chosen to walk the CGW instead of going after two NS Heritage Units, I wondered if I made the right choice. In September 2013, they finally ripped out the tracks. Now, looking back, the near heat stroke and all the cuts to my legs from wild roses were worth it.
