In the world of instant gratification -- who has 18 minutes -- I - TopicsExpress

In the world of instant gratification -- who has 18 minutes -- I transcribed a bit that caught my ear. From about the 10:30 mark: Timothy Leary: I generally, in lectures, I think am much more … assertive and aggressive. I make fun of Reagan, and I don’t … you know, make love to Casper Weinberger. I feel that it is my function rightly or wrongly to, uh, as an Irish storyteller, to play that role of making fun. Ram Dass, interrupting: A storyteller lives in the world of good and evil. Leary: The world of good and evil, yeah … Ram Dass: But you and I both can play in the world of good and evil without getting caught in righteousness. Leary: Yeah, uh, yeah yeah, I uh. So I tend to be much more abrasive than you, and I disturb more Ram Dass interrupting: Yeah, but I see that as just a different form, I don’t see it as better or worse. [Leary stumbles for words and Ram Dass forges on.] I stir up too. I connect people who have seen each other as opponents and say “I’m going to say no to you Casper, I’m going to stop you if I possibly can, but I’m not going to put you out of my heart.” And that means something, that’s opening a gate that has been closed for too damn long.
