In the world of road cycling, we are often enthralled by pro cyclists tackling mountains such as the famous and beautiful L’Alpe dHuez climbs in the Tour de France. As a result, it has inspired many of us to cycle up to beautiful places where we would not think of visiting by car. CLEAN, COOLING, FRESH AIR There are a few road cyclists friendly climbs in the Klang Valley. This Sunday, PCC will bring us to one of the top favourite spots for climbs and a stopover at Janda Baik. The group will start with a relaxing warmup pace for around 5km until we reach the foot of the climb up all the way to the peak at the mechanic shop. The first regroup will be held at the roundabout after the mechanic shop, a speedy downhill towards the Genting Sempah Rest Area. From there, we will embark on our journey to the food stop inside Janda Baik. Time: 7:30 am(Please be there 15 minutes earlier) Date: Sunday(18th January, 2015) Start/ End: AWE Sup Power food court, Gombak (in front of Sekolah Menengah Teknik Gombak, Jln Sg. Pusu, Off Jln Gombak) GPS: N03deg 14.757’E101deg 43.643’ Directions: Go to Google Maps Malaysia & search under “Sekolah Menengah Teknik Gombak” (WAZE-able) Head to Jalan Gombak(If coming from Kepong, exit the MRR flyover after Batu Caves temple & go straight along Jalan Batu Caves. Do not follow the flyover to Karak Highway). Reset your car distance meter when you turn left at the mosque on Jalan Gombak, drive 2.2km until you see a traffic light & turn right into Jalan Sg Pusu. At 3.1km you will see Sek Men Teknik Gombak on your right. U-turn and you are there. Route: Option A: AWE - GSRA roundabout(REGROUP) - Janda Baik - Burger hill climb - AWE (74.0km) Option B: AWE - GSRA roundabout(REGROUP) - Burger hill climb - AWE (50km) Notes: - The descent from the mechanic shop to the first regroup point can be really fast and there are visible potholes in the middle of the road. Recommended to practise safe descending speed - The route to Janda Baik is bumpy, might be slippery due to leaves, sands and rain - On the way back from Janda Baik, please take extra caution of vehicles coming from the right when taking the sharp left turn towards the Genting Sempah Rest Area - There will be vehicles traveling up and down on Genting Sempah. Allow them to pass whenever necessary for the safety of yourself and fellow cyclists. An angry driver can be dangerous - Speeding downhill is fun for all of us but please do not descend at a speed beyond the limit of your comfort zone You are welcomed to bring a friend along to join us, as a matter of fact, the more the merrier. But please do take care of him/her instead of leaving them at the back, the route going home might seem simple and straight forward but to keep the interest of cycling intact, it is always better, safe and more motivating when he/she has another person riding alongside. Things to bring along: Spare tubes, handphone, hand pump, multitools, tyre levers, food, sunblock, 2 filled water bottles and for safety purpose, NO HELMET NO RIDE. Ride Leader: Rohan Shan - 0166832783 Teh Teng Hock - 0126830668 We hope to see you on Sunday and as usual, the more the merrier *Please save the contact details of the leaders. Should anyone decides to turn back halfway, please inform someone in the group.
