In the year marking the Centennial of the Christmas Truce, the National World War I Museum offers several programs recognizing the remarkable event in which soldiers along the Western and Eastern Fronts laid down their arms and celebrated a moment of peace during a time of war. Sporting Club and the Museum invite the Kansas City soccer community to take part in the second annual Truce Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 26. The event, which features a 3v3 soccer tournament paying tribute to the 1914 Christmas Truce in which soldiers were reported as playing soccer, is paired with an English Premier League Watch Party inside the Museum and the Boxing Day Brewhaha games competition. Tickets to any of the events can be purchased online. The Museum debuted its newest online exhibition The Christmas Truce, Winter 1914 on Dec. 3. The exhibition explores myths and realities surrounding the Christmas Truce featuring dozens of firsthand accounts from men on the front lines and insights from Great War experts. The Museum is closed on Dec. 24, but the Lyric Opera Veterans Chorus will offer a free Christmas Eve performance featuring “Silent Night” in three languages in the Liberty Memorial Courtyard at 10 a.m. The National World War I Museum is partnering with amateur radio operators to present WW1USA for 31 consecutive hours from Saturday, Dec. 27 - Sunday, Dec. 28.
