In their book OREGONS FOREST PROTECTION LAWS, the Oregon Forest Resources Institute devotes several pages to the topic of Rapidly Moving Landslides. They show a map of the Tyee Core Area, which covers the Coastal mountains from Northern Lane County to nearly the California border, and from I-5 to the Pacific. Because of the geology within this area, it is prone to landslides when timber is harvested from steep slopes. Tragic landslides, similar to the one in Washington, have occurred here and will continue to be a threat as long as timber companies seek profit over sound advice.
