In this March of 2010 Ottawa Daily Times article by Dan Churney an interview with the Leaders of the the Committee to Free Weger pretty much sum up their position. Ironically this was shared by Bob the Spellur as proof of their position. Local men Dave Marsh and Bob Petre believe Chester Weger has been in prison half a century for a crime he did not commit — and have been saying so for several years.... Marsh and Petre claim another man committed the murders for $20,000 at the behest of the husband of one of the victims, so the husband could marry another woman. The two other women were murdered because they were with the targeted victim. Marsh and Petre claim the husband collected on a life insurance policy and remarried four weeks after the murders. However, after Marsh and Petre were asked, they said they do not have a copy of the marriage certificate from the ceremony they cited and do not know the exact date of the marriage. They also do not have a copy of any newspaper story about the marriage, but doubted there would have been news coverage of the marriage, despite their acknowledgment the media saturated the case and such a sudden remarriage would have been very significant to the investigation. Marsh and Petre further claim a web of officials covered up the murderers tracks and framed Weger — either out of friendship and political ties to the murderer and his family or out of fear. Others who knew of the frame-up largely remained quiet, also out of fear, in Marsh and Petres view. Petre and Marsh said they have talked with Weger and have otherwise studied the murders. Marsh made a video expressing his view of the case, called Alien Murders at Starved Rock, that can be viewed online at youtube/watch?v=gqILjgYmczc. Also on YouTube, Marsh has video interviews with people he and Petre believe bolster their theory Weger is innocent.
