In this installment of Filmmaker IQ, John Hess teaches what you can do to improve your audio recording in post-production. To understand many of the terms used in this clip, it will be helpful to view my earlier posting, The Science and Engineering of Sound if you have not done so already. By the way, if you are wondering why an image of Gandalf appears in this video, I reckon Hess is using the You shall not pass meme to cheekily illustrate his point. In “The Fellowship of the Ring,” Gandalf utters the phrase as he blocks the path of Balrog the Demon in pursuit. A must see for both audio noobs and film students.
