In this moment, the World Cup has brought the world closer - TopicsExpress

In this moment, the World Cup has brought the world closer together. But its a sad truth in life that children like this 9-year-old Guinean boy with Ebola dont always make it. Ive read many stories of lives saved though, and I saw another boy personally, younger, treated for malaria when I was in Tanzania who would survive. The work that nonprofit groups, governments, universities (including US ones like UNC) and so many other groups do on these diseases is some of the best use of time and resources that you could think of. We also live in a time with ISIS and growing fundamentalist and terrorist ambitions. Next time someone criticizes the work that the US and other countries do internationally, or focuses on divisions in our country, remember that we are engaged in this work, too. What better message to send to ISIS and other terrorist groups today than the fact that people from our country are engaged in this lifesaving work in countries like Guinea, thousands of miles away from their homes. The best diplomacy we have is our values-President Obama, US citizens, and everyone in all assisting countries can be proud of that, and united in our work to make the world a little more endurable.
