In this post: Lots! Obs, comparisons, history, mins, maxes, forecast and website update. Phew! On this day in Darwin Ap - (Saturday) October 18 Highest maximum temperature EVER!! 38.9°C 1982 Lowest minimum temperature 21.7°C 1945 Wettest 95.0mm 1956 Yes, it is the 32nd anniversary of Darwins hottest ever temp. This morning they got 23.5C, which is the average this month, or 1.5C under the long term average. The dry season still having its hold on October and bullying the Wet Season into submission. Poor Wet Season. :( Saturday morning temps: PW got 23.7C, Noonamah 21.7C and Middle Point got 17.7C, just 0.1C off this months coolest morning and 4.1C cooler than Fridays low temp. Last Octobers coolest morning was 19.5C This is the coolest for this date, beating 19C in 2006. The October record for MP is 16.2C on the 19th 2009. Currently MP is 2C under the average for minimum temps but are looking at breaking the average max temp record, currently at 38.4C which is 1.1C over av. 2 other stations in the NT are looking at breaking records too. Interesting to note that in my post yesterday before 4pm I mentioned the possibility of rain Monday morning. Sunday morning is a slimmer chance, but I thought against it. BOM had sunny. Come this morning at 9:58am BOM are now forecasting a possible early morning shower on Sunday and Monday. Good to know I wasnt by myself on this forecast, I was feeling lonely hahaha. Saturday max temps: PW got 36.1C and 10% humidity, Darwin 34C and 28%, Noonamah 38.5C and 10% before 3:30pm, Middle Point 39.5C and 9%, this temp is the highest seen this month and just 0.1C under the highest for this day in 2009. Both Douglas River and Bradshaw beat Middle Point to be hottest in the NT, both with 39.7C. Hottest in Australia today is Wyndham AP with 40.5C (by 4:05CST). Paraguay was the hottest in the World yesterday with 44.4C as I dont believe BOMs data saying Scherger RAAF, QLD was 46.4C, 9.7C more than the next closest in Queensland. Next highest for yesterday was Marble Bar WA with 39.9C. Forecast: Palmerston Sunday 24-36 and no chance of rain (website says no). Winds higher, approaching 20 kmhr at lunchtime. BOM: Darwin City and Outer Darwin area Slight (20%) chance of a shower in the morning. Sunny afternoon. Light winds becoming east to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning then tending northwest to northeasterly in the late afternoon. (updated 9:54am. I will amend this with their 4:40pm forecast). Website Update: Ive long had a warning pop up on the screen if the fire danger was SEVERE. Ive now added that you should visit the BOM Warning page for more information. Ive now gone further. If the wind is being calculated as possibly being cyclone strength a warning will pop up to visit the warning page. It will NOT let you miss the important information! 1 more warning I added, if there is a possible chance of a dangerous afternoon storm, a warning will pop up advising of this. In all cases you click OK. Youve been notified, and you continue to view the days weather, webcams, weather maps etc etc etc. In the Future: With more data and obs, I intend on adding a flood warning message for those flood ways in the Palmerston area. At the moment the current warnings only come up on the website, however, I am considering making the flood-way warnings automatically pop up on the website AND my Palmerston Weather Facebook page. Thoughts?
