In this video, Uganda country director Dan Enarson explains how biogas works. One beneficiary of the project, Samuel Arukoh, told us that he spent nearly $8,000 shillings a week on firewood for cooking before biogas was installed at his house. He said he had to walk a long distance to buy the wood, and his region is a dangerous area. Now that the family has biogas, they don’t have to buy much firewood, and they can cook even when it’s raining. Most importantly, his children’s education has improved because of the new system. “Before biogas came here, they used to buy a candle when they came back from school,” he said. This candle cost between 300 and 500 Ugandan shillings for 30 minutes. But now they can spend more than two or three hours doing their homework with that light.” Learn more in this video.
