In times of hardship and struggle people say some very inane - TopicsExpress

In times of hardship and struggle people say some very inane things, they tend to call out scholars and question them, invariably it is something like “What have you done about Gaza?” “What have you done about Syria?” “What about the events unfolding in Iraq?” My response is, that if after all this time you still don’t know what they’ve done, you simply have not been listening. People are so passionate to right the wrongs that are external that they forget the internal; the battle is within. This is the way of the Prophet (ﷺ), we are quick to call for a revival, but that will not necessarily change our condition. Do you think injustices are something new? Have you read any of our history? The companions were tortured, the family of the Prophet (ﷺ) were literally butchered, then you have amazing luminaries like Imām Mālik and Imām Ḥanbal that were persecuted and shamed countless times. Our religion teaches us mercy, dignity and most importantly patience; hatred and repulsiveness will get us nowhere. The circumstances in Gaza are atrocious, the loss of life is heartbreaking, but their reward is with God, they will be granted the highest abode in heaven. If you want to see real change, lasting change, then internalize the way of the Prophet (ﷺ) of his companions, and his righteous followers, adopt their characteristics that are the very essence of Islam, and then outwardly allow them to manifest in your actions and interactions. And then, I promise you, the world will change.
