In todays Kenosha News...Imagine Silver Lake with less drama My family resides in Silver Lake. We love the community but realize that it is facing huge issues. When I heard from friends and neighbors that there was talk about dissolving the village I wasn’t sure that was the right way to go. So I attended a “dissolve meeting” with an open mind seeking to educate myself. I listened to both the pros and cons and made an informed decision about what was best for my family. I concluded that we must dissolve and re-join the town of Salem. To me the issues were clear cut. Dissolve and we could still enjoy our own community. Government doesn’t create that identity but rather our neighbors and neighborhoods do. We would still have our schools, post office, businesses, roads, in fact almost everything important would remain, just for less money and, more importantly, less drama. In addition, our fire department would actually have government support and we would enjoy a 24/7 paramedic rescue response, and other great services. Living in Silver Lake now is much like being an unwilling passenger on a runaway train, you just know that it isn’t going to end well. The engineer and conductor either cannot or will not stop the train. It is up to the citizens to stop the train before the inevitable wreck. And get it on a whole new track, one of prosperity, not ruin. Let’s stop the annual financial embarrassments — where we cannot even afford tires for our fire trucks. Embarrassing, frustrating and dangerous. I urge Silver Lake residents to check the facts, and you too will vote yes to dissolve on Nov. 4. Doug Randolph Silver Lake
