In todays in Jummah Khutba I went through the significance of the month of Muharram and its 10th day (Aashura). I covered the benefits (فضائل) the causes and reasons (أسباب) reason finally the subtleties (لطائف) what is often missed these days. One of the main points was that Muhammad (صلله عليه و سلم) told the Jews that we have more right to Musa (as) and to fast in Ashura than the Jews, and in fact fasting on that day was fard on muslims until it was abrogated by the obligatory fasting in Ramadan. The Prophet (pbuh) said: لَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مَا أَتَى عَلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ حَذْوَ النَّعْلِ بِالنَّعْلِ Messenger of Allah (saw) said: What befell the children of Israil will befall my Ummah, step by step… It was a day to give shukr and commemorate the exemplary punishment of the wretched firaun in the Dunya and Al-Ākhira and the freedom from slavery to Firaun..a man who was overflowing in his arrogance and tyranny (طُغْيان) and now kept in a museum while other dictators are in refrigerators Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) then describes in Baqarah that the Women and children were rescued and watched firaun and his men die, but unfortunately the firaun in ther hearts was still alive. They coveted the life of firaun, their problem with firaun was they werent on top, they evaluated blessing and being cursed as benefit and harm. Once they settled on the other side, their secret admiration for the life of Firaun reached the surface, they didnt dislike him for the oppression, they just didnt like that in amongst the oppressive class and the oppressed class that they werent on top of the food chain/pyramid...they coveted the life of the tyrant. So Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) said to them to descend and eat, because only a people who would choose their own comfort over the obedience to Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) are afflicted with lowliness and wretchedness. We as the ones who are 2nd 3rd generation have been born here, saved from much plight in the 3rd world. What did we do? We started to get comfortable in the Dunya, ignoring Allahs ahkam, negligent of the oppression and crimes around the word, and have made Ashura, like those before us, just another day to fast.https://soundcloud/moinul-abu-hamza/the-month-muharram-the-day-of-ashura-in-islam
