In today’s world of “tolerance” and “acceptance” it is - TopicsExpress

In today’s world of “tolerance” and “acceptance” it is becoming increasingly difficult to be a Catholic in the United States of America. The idea of a separation between Church and state is seemingly interpreted as an opportunity to separate any sort of religion from any sort of moral issue. When we stand up and profess the faith that has been a stronghold for millennia we are marginalized. We are told that infallible Church teachings are all of a sudden untrue, because they conflict with contemporary sociological norms. I must assert that legality is not the same as morality. There are plenty of things that are legal under the laws of man but are at the same time immoral. Sometimes people get around this issue by saying “This is what I personally believe in, but I cannot force somebody else to.” This is not an option. Cultural relativism has been a poor practice since the days of the Sophists. The truth remains the truth, regardless of whether or not we acknowledge it to be the truth. I believe in the teachings of Christ and the teachings of the Church. If you would like to persecute me for it, so be it. However, realize that the teachings of the Church are not truth because they came from God, but rather they came from God because they are the truth. As I pursue my liberal arts education at Saint Anselm College, I will continue to work to deepen my faith, and I will continue to seek an understanding from the faith that is so central to my life. Despite my sins and my shortcomings; despite my exhilarating victories and deflating defeats, this will always be true: I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
