In trying to categorize the 150 different forms of musculoskeletal conditions The Arthritis Foundation created, in 1963, a classification known as Soft Tissue Rheumatism to describe Fibromyalgia, which encompasses the supporting structures of joints (e.g., ligaments, bursar and tendons), muscles and other soft tissue. The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) in 1992 defined fibromyalgia as being part of a wider spectrum encompassing headache, irritable bladder, spastic colitis, painful menstrual periods, temperature sensitivity, atypical patterns of numbness and tingling, exercise intolerance, weakness, persistent fatigue, stiffness and non restoring sleep. © All About Fibromyalgia, A guide for Patients and their families Daniel J Wallace, M.D. & Janice Brock Wallace
