In view of all of the rather negative recent rants and criticisms on Ancestry, I wanted to impart a few of my thoughts today, having been involved in family history and genealogy for the past 35 years as a devout passion of mine. I began my quest before the age of computers and sending SASE (remember those), out in the mail hoping for a response. My family is much like yours, a reflection of life, with births, adoptions of children by loving kins, name changes and hard to follow lineages of direct ancestors. There were many along this road that took my queries as a neophyte and helped me achieve what I have today. Dedicated court clerks in many counties, countless DAR dedicated women, mostly without extra pay only for copy services that gave me the information I was seeking and challenged me to new plateaus, as I called them - not brickwalls. I have thanked them even to the point of standing on their graves in person with flowers to expresss my gratitude. This post is not a rant; this post is only to accentuate the positive aspects of what we all seek to find in our pursuits. Please do not lose sight of that lofy purpose in your daily work on your family history and genealogy.
