In warm conditions at Luton in the second East Anglian League meet of the season, Huntingdonshire AC excelled once again with three club records, 27 victories and two age group wins. In the Under 13 Girls category, Frannie Chapman won the shot putt, adding over a metre to her personal best and a huge 41 cms to Hayley Edwards 13-year-old club record with 8.39m which puts Frannie just a few centimetres short of a national top 20 ranking. Frannie also picked up a win in the 100m B race with 14.4 secs. Following up with her recent county gold medal in the 1500m, Shannon Flockhart bided her time over the same distance before taking the lead on the last to gain a comfortable win in 5:28.3. Out in the field, Lilah Wooldridge won the B string high jump with 1 1.15m clearance. The U13G team beat host club Luton by a point to win their age group competition. In the Under 15 Girls section, Jasmine won the 100m A race in a personal best-equalling 13.1 secs while Aleta Fraylich took the 300m A race in 45.2 secs. The two of them later teamed up with Nicole Covell and Harriet Bruce to win the 4x100m relay in 52.8 secs, just 0.4 secs away from the club record which they are now targeting. In the combined Under 17 Women/Senior Women competition, Charlie Batterbee improved her own U17W hammer throw club record by 72 cms with 37.40m. The Under 13 Boys finished the meet with the largest margin of victory over their opponents, beating second-place Leighton Buzzard by 23 points. Their nine wins was the most out of all of Hunts ACs age groups. The sole winners on the track were Jack Wyles and Cameron Reid who won the A and B string 75m hurdles races. The big points were gained out in the field. George Hamilton-Smith led the way with a hat-trick of first places in the throwing events with shot putt (7.53m), discus (16.50m) and javelin (20.95m). Dawson Wooldridge backed up George with a win in the B string shot putt with 5.60m. In the jumps, Jack Wyles placed first in the A string long jump with 4.04m while Charlie Evans picked up the B string win with 3.40m. Meanwhile, Jamie Franklin high jumped 1.40 which added 5 cms to his best, got him the win in the A string, and put him into the top 35 in the country. After a relatively poor showing at the last East Anglian League meet, the Hunts AC Under 15 Boys got back on track with a strong second-place team showing, just three points behind host club Luton. Llewelyn Thomas got the ball rolling with a win in the 100m A race with 11.8 secs, while team-mate James Gowland grabbed the win in the B string with12.6 secs. They later joined forces with Ryan Boden and Callan Keightley to win the 4x100m relay. Declan Rice contributed to the team effort with a personal best 32.86m to win the hammer throw and gain a top 25 place in the national rankings. In the high jump, Fraser Kerr won the A event with 1.30m while Tom Lynn cleared 1.20m for the B string win. In the Under 17 Mens age category, Owen King and Owain Collard were dominant in the sprints with Owen winning the A string 100m in 11.4 and 200m in 23.3 while Owain won the B strings in 11.7 and 23.3 respectively. Along with Ryan Boden and Callan Keightley, they ran out easy winners in the sprint relay with a 47.7 sec clocking. Owen King picked up his fourth win of the day with a 5.09m distance in the B string long jump. The U17Ms team finished a fine second and have given themselves a fighting chance to make the Finals in September. With the Senior Mens events covered by veteran athletes on this occasion, they decided to attack the club veterans 4x100m relay record. With a combined age of 200 years (!), Derek Darnell, Peter Downhill, Wayne DuBose and Ed Procter duly carried the baton around, knocking 2.5 seconds of the old record recording 54.5 secs. This was the last event of the day and symbolised the great success that Hunts AC enjoyed throughout this meet.
