In yesterdays The New York Times, David Gonzales delved into the sense of loss a community disappeared can experience. Though the neighborhood has come through many drastic changes over the course of its vibrant and diverse history, we have found the undercurrent of community to remain constant. May is LES History Month, a time for the neighborhood to focus on exploring our past and shaping our future. At Grand St. Settlement, our programs and community centers are a second home to multiple generations of Lower East Siders - many of whom love nothing more than to sit a while and talk about how they created a life and a community here.
