In your status, list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. Dont take more than a few minutes and do not think too hard. They do not have to be the right books or great works of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way. Tag 10 friends including me so I can see your list. (The last time I tagged a few of my friends, I got in big trouble, so I dont do that anymore.) 1. THE DARK TOWER, Volumes 1-7 by Stephen King. No one will convince me otherwise--this is Kings masterpiece. Mind-blowing. 2. THE GENTLE HOUSE by Anna Perrott Rose. My 6th grade teacher read us this book about a Latvian refugee boy who, after coming to America and being shuffled around from home to home, finally finds his rightful place in the loving home of a schoolteacher. Beautiful story. 3. LAST WORDS by George Carlin. The autobiography of, IMHO, the greatest American comedian of all time. 4. CHILDHOODS END by Arthur C. Clarke. The legendary author in a brilliant tale of his vision of the end of the world. There was talk of a movie being made of this & I was bitterly disappointed when it didnt happen. 5. THE LORD WONT MIND by Gordon Merrick. Ive only read a few gay novels in my life, but for me this was the one most beautifully written; a deeply moving love story with unforgettable characters. 6. BE HERE NOW by Baba Ram Dass. The standard by which all other books on spirituality and cosmic consciousness are judged. When I had my spiritual awakening in February of 1978, this was the book that planted my feet firmly onto a path of further self-discovery. 7. The CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD books, by Neale Donald Walsch. From the first CWG book to virtually everything hes written, these are the books that changed my life, showing me in irrefutable terms what God IS and ISNT. I recommend them to everyone with ears to hear. 8. ILLUSIONS by Richard Bach. The adventures of a reluctant Messiah. Another beautifully-written allegory of the power of seeing through the veils of illusion that cloud our lives, & the indescribable feeling of freedom once they are cast aside. 9. THE PILL VS. THE SPRINGHILL MINE DISASTER by Richard Brautigan. The first collection of poems I read by this utterly incomparable poet, who showed me the beauty, the profundity & the HUMOR of free verse. 10. GREAT EXPECTATIONS by Charles Dickens. (Or, in the words of Monty Python, DARLES CHICKENS...) Of ALL the books I was required to read in junior high AND high school, this was the one I enjoyed the most. The story had me hooked, right from the beginning. When I had to write a paper on it for my freshman English class, it was the only A+ that my teacher (who I DID NOT get along with) ever gave me. A classic tale. OK, like others taking part in this, there are more I could mention, but these were the first 10 that came to mind. Feedback is welcomed.
