Inchinnan Junction Improvement Program. The design of A8 - TopicsExpress

Inchinnan Junction Improvement Program. The design of A8 Inchinnan Junction proposed by the Renfrewshire Council is now finalised and released after 6 months of consultation with residents. Implementation schedule is January to March 2015. In response to the released layout the Community Council have commented Inchinnan Community Council support in principle the junction safety improvement plan with the exception of the parking arrangements. In our opinion the parking methods so described on the central reserve create a hazard for road users and will not improve safety in this area. To view the layout access renfrewshire.gov.uk/webcontent/home/services/transport+and+streets/ce-greenockrdinchinnan . There may be a browser issue with the pdf file from Renfrew Council web site; if so please email secretaryicc@outlook for a copy of this layout. The Junction Design can be summarised by: An Installation of traffic light controls on re-aligned carriageways located south of the reservations. Access to Inchinnan is primarily by the traffic lights with additional routes accessing local services. Exit from Inchinnan by traffic lights only except Buses going to Renfrew can use a bus lane joining A8. A driver changing point and a relocated bus stop is on this slip road. Public access to the South pavement A8 via traffic light control. Controlled parking and loading will be designated. History: Thank-you to all local Councillors and the Community who like many have been horrified at the junction methodology and accident rates over the past years for assisting and supporting the campaign for a safer Junction. Throughout these years various proposals design meetings were held with the Roads Department with a major detractor to progress being lack of appropriate funding. Thanks to the increased efforts in 2013/14 from Cllrs Sam Mullin & Eddie Devine working with SPT in securing funding of £250K being made available allowed the project to go live with the proposed design favoured by the Roads Dept in providing a safer solution within the available funding arrangements. A proposal was made to the community at an exhibition in June inviting comments which were numerous and lively. Council invited ICC and residents to meet and continue this comments process which throughout ICC have addressed purely on safety & suitability aspects of the design. Many of these comments have been accepted and are featured in the latest layout. Council quote: We greatly value community input and the role played by the ICC has been very helpful in drawing together a wide range of interests and views to reach a consensus. Thanks go to all who participated in this consultation type process and worked alongside ICC. Hopefully this will result in a safer area for all.
