Inchinnan Junction Improvement Program. The design proposed by - TopicsExpress

Inchinnan Junction Improvement Program. The design proposed by the Council to improve the safety at Inchinnan junction on the A8 is now well into final stages with implementation indicated as early January to March 2015. The Proposal: Installation of traffic light controls on re-aligned carriageways located south of the reservations. Access to Inchinnan primarily by the traffic lights with additional routes accessing local services. Exit from Inchinnan by traffic lights only. A bus lane joining A8 going East exists for driver changing and a relocated bus stop. Lowering of speed limits under consideration. The History: Thank-you to all local Councillors and the Community who like many have been horrified at the junction methodology and accident rates over the past years for assisting and supporting the campaign for a safer Junction. Throughout these years various proposals design meetings were held with the Roads Department with a major detractor to progress being lack of appropriate funding. Thanks to increased efforts in 2013/14 from Cllr Sam Mullin and Cllr Eddie Devine working with SPT in securing funding has resulted in £250K being made available. This allowed the project to go live with the proposed design favoured by the Roads Dept in providing a safer solution within the available funding arrangements. A design proposal was made available to the community at an exhibition in June inviting comments which were numerous and lively. Council invited ICC to meet and continue this comments process which throughout ICC addressed purely on safety aspects of the design as expressed in the community comments. Many of these comments have been accepted and are featured in the latest layout. Council quote: We greatly value community input and the role played by the ICC has been very helpful in drawing together a wide range of interests and views to reach a consensus. Thanks go to all who participated in this consultation type process and worked alongside ICC. Hopefully this will result in a safer area for all.
