Incident: Shuttle America E170 at Denver on Feb 28th 2014, control problems due to frozen ailerons By Simon Hradecky, created Monday, Mar 3rd 2014 22:47Z, last updated Monday, Mar 3rd 2014 22:47Z A Shuttle America Embraer ERJ-170 on behalf of United, registration N644RW performing flight S5-3526/UA-3526 from Minneapolis,MN to Denver,CO (USA), was descending towards Denver when the autopilot disconnected and the crew noticed the controls for ailerons were jammed. The crew disconnected aileron control of left and right hand yoke, after which the first officer was able to control the right hand aileron again. The crew continued for a safe landing on Denvers runway 26 about 15 minutes later with emergency services on stand by and vacated the runway. Maintenance determined that a waste water system was leaking at the forward galley causing the left hand control cables of the aircraft to freeze up. Following the disconnect of the control yokes the right hand side controls were available again. The aircraft was repaired and resumed service the following day. The FAA confirmed the crew declared emergency due to an aileron issue and continued for a safe landing on runway 26.
