Included in the article below is a chart that gives some insights into gun ownership and gun violence -- by state. The data is a bit outdated, but I doubt there are major changes in the RANKING of the states. By clicking on the heading of a column, you can sort the states by rank for that column. I was surprised that California has such a low percentage of gun ownership -- 21.3% -- tied for the 42nd lowest percentage. Yet our gun homicide rate is 13th highest. And oddly enough, CA is a state that essentially still bans the right to carry a loaded firearm outside the house. We are SUPPOSED to be safer with this gun ban mentality, but its not happening. Just the opposite. What jumps out from the state figures is the lack of any correlation between percentage of guns owned and gun violence. Indeed, there seems something of an INVERSE correlation on average, with wide swings in exceptions. Thus another gun grabber axiom bites the dust. What is NOT apparent from the figures (and I dont have time to do the workup) is the correlation of gun deaths and percentage of the population that is black -- especially URBAN blacks. While not a state, DC is heavily black, and its included in the chart. By being FAR worse than any state, DC further validates my thesis. Blacks commit almost half the total murders in the U.S., so naturally high-black populations have higher murder rates. (Go to the article for more facts and details.)
