Inclusion is not something we can pull off by adding ramps and rails and lunch time library clubs and sticking kids in support units and saying we are trying our best. Michelle Sutton writes about inclusion in schools. A great article if youre interested. Repeatedly we hear from other families with kids on the spectrum that there is a paucity of support funding and hours, and so very capable teachers and special ed units do their best but with not enough resources. Its one of the reasons were choosing a different path- Not because we dont believe theres great teachers out there, but because in such an underfunded system, our kids can not possibly thrive.
