Increased Rates in Mombasa Dear Robert I trust that you are having a good day so far. I have a concern that might interest you, whats with the increased rates for business licenses? I might have missed the memo or something, but rates have close to doubled in Mombasa, and theres no relenting. The office wherein am based paid 17,000 last year, this year we have forked 33,800; I can make efforts to avail the copies should this be necessary. I know of others who have paid around 15,000 from 7,000 or 8,000, and I met two unlucky chaps who chucked 75,000 and 96,000 respectively. Interestingly enough am told license renewals were withheld prior to the end of 2013, so you could not renew your license in advance - am yet to ascertain this however. Reports (unconfirmed) have also surfaced that the deadline for paying these astronomical fees is approaching, from which the owners or employees unluckily serving as operators will be at the mercy of the barbaric kanjo. I am wondering whether this cuts across the country in the other counties, or if our president johos county is one of a special kind. In all honesty, the government should lay bare all the licenses they expect to introduce and raise between now and 2017 and stop pulling such punches. Be blessed. Ouma
