Independent of what? The distribution of PVC was twice postponed in Borno state. It was earlier scheduled that INEC will distribute the cards in only twelve local government areas out of twenty seven but failed twice. The Commissions spokeman, last week, said that distribution was not possible as scheduled because the PVCs for Borno state are still not brought to Maiduguri from Abuja which reminded me of the 2007 elction. In 2007 some of my colleagues who served as adhoc staff for INEC were at the various collation centres to submit results for the gubernatorial election. Meanwhile, my neighbour was at Ngala waiting for results from islands of Sigir, Kirta, Kusuma and Yerwa Kura to be conveyed, along with other votes from Ngala, to Maiduguri. Other officials and party agents were at INEC headquarters Maiduguri busy compiling the results. I was together with some few friends at a neighbours house watching an NTA Network Programme on elections and then out of the blues, the winner of the guber election in Borno state was announced. Those at the various collation centres whom we phoned to inform that the winner was announced were surprised and couldnt believe us. INEC maintained that it had to announce the result at Abuja because the results awaited could not make any difference to the ones so far collated. Well, could the letter I in the name of the Commission that stands for Indepedent also mean indepent of our votes? I need my PVC!
