India, Bahrain express commitment to enhance bilateral trade, investment India and Bahrain trade and commerce has gathered momentum over the years and is poised to grow more with emphasis on partnerships in key sectors. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told in Manama that Bahrain leaders are also looking forward to expand the trade and commerce ties. The Bahrain foreign minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa underlined the importance of joining hands with the participation of businessmen and investors from both the sides to promote economic relations and provide investment opportunities. India and Bahrain trade and commerce ties are on an upswing. Bilateral trade between the two countries has crossed $1,3 billion mark in 2013-14 and is projected to cross $1.5 billion. India’s export to Bahrain has gone up by more than 80 percent over the past five years from $252 million to $603 million in 2012-13. India’s major non-oil exports include chemicals, compounds of precious metals, boilers, electrical and electronic machinery and vehicles with spare parts. Other than oil , India imports Aluminium, Iron and Steel, Salt, Sulphur, Plastering Materials, Lime and Cement, and Fertilizers to name a few. Now the emphasis is on moving from a typical buyer seller relation to partners in progress. Key areas include agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, medical tourism, real estate and pharmaceuticals. Besides Bahrain being a member of GCC and its free trade agreements with European nations and NAFTA can provide easy access of Indian goods to the destinations abroad.
