India and Oman Navies conducting joint military exercises off Omani coast Indian Navy is conducting a three day joint military exercise-‘Naseem Al Bahr” or the Breeze from the Sea, off the coast of Oman with the Royal Omani Navy, from September 23-26. The Indian contingent is led by four ships from the Western fleet. These include state-of-the art and indigenously built INS Mysore, INS Tarkash, INS Tabar and fuel tanker INS Aditya. Indian ships are on a goodwill visit to the Persian gulf region. The ships are on a goodwill visit to Oman after sailing through Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. The joint military exercise is part of ongoing collaboration between the navies of the two countries to enhance the maritime capabilities. Indian Navy shares close and friendly ties with all navies in the Gulf and has engaged in joint naval exercises with many of them. It has played a key role in ensuring the safety of sea lanes to counter the threats of pirates and non-state actors in the region. Besides it has been providing training and hydrographic support to several navies in the region. Defence cooperation between the two countries covers high level military visits, training and port visits by naval ships.The visit of Indian Naval Ships is a reaffirmation of India’s strong ties with gulf countries in the region.
