India is a federal union of states comprising twenty-nine states - TopicsExpress

India is a federal union of states comprising twenty-nine states and seven union territories. The states and union territories are further subdivided into districts and so on. Indias population is bigger than the whole of Africa. this year, a new state was created in India as a result of long agitation from a particular section of the country demanding for their own state due to marginalization. In Nigeria, the need to create an additional state in southeast cannot be overemphasized considering the system of government that is in practice (a system of share the money equal). there is no fiscal federalism in Nigeria unlike what is obtainable in countries that also practice federal system of government like India and the United States of America. In a bid to add a deserved state to the southeast to be at par with other geopolitical regions in Nigeria, the national conference shamelessly proposed the creation of 18 unviable states as if they are creating local governments. why would anyone find it difficult to create just one state but easy to create as many as 18 states? instead of proliferation of states in Nigeria in a bid to correct an obvious imbalance, I think it would be better to create Anioma state from the present Delta State and cede it to the southeast since it would still be an Igbo state. I am saying this because I noticed that the problem with Nigeria is not just creating a state but creating it in southeast despite the obvious cheating. what do you think?
