India must call off plan to supply warships to Sri Lanka: Karunanidhi DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and PMK founder S. Ramadoss have taken exception to India’s plan to supply two warships to Sri Lanka to strengthen its surveillance capabilities. “Sri Lankan Navy will use the warships to further its attack on Tamil fishermen. There is a report that the ships will be sent to Sri Lanka in 2017-18. Indian government should immediately call off its plan,” Mr Karunanidhi said. He said the DMK did not believe in the allegation that India supplied arms to Sri Lankan Army during the last leg of war between the Army and the LTTE. “Now the report on supplying warships confirms that India helps Sri Lanka and remains indifferent to the genuine demands of the Sri Lankan Tamils and fishermen,” he said. Dr Ramadoss wanted to know the need for India to supply warships to Sri Lanka when the country was not facing any threat in the Indian Ocean. “India is closely monitoring the area and Sri Lanka is facing no threat from any other country,” he said, warning that people of Tamil Nadu would turn against the Centre if it went ahead with its plans. thehindu/news/national/tamil-nadu/india-must-call-off-plan-to-supply-warships-to-sri-lanka-karunanidhi/article5101530.ece
