Indian CEO forum to boost bilateral economic ties- Chaminda Perera (Daily News) The Indian CEO Forum comprising Indian business leaders and professionals based in Sri Lanka was officially launched by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa in Ratmalana on Friday. The Forum is expected to boost closer ties between India and Sri Lanka in the field of investment, trade and tourism and contribute to the economic growth of Sri Lanka. This would become a platform for discussion for business leaders of Indian origin who head Indian, multinational and Sri Lankan companies in Sri Lanka. It will also help attract more Indian investment to Sri Lanka and ease the investment process for potential investors. Speaking at the launching ceremony, India’s new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Y.K. Sinha said the Indian CEO Forum will help boost trade ties between Sri Lanka and India. He said ICF members are responsible in promoting Indian investment in Sri Lanka. Sinha said they should be ambassadors of India to promote more closer ties between Sri Lanka and India in the field of trade, investment and hospitality sectors. The launching ceremony is the first official engagement of Sinha after being posted to Colombo. “Indian companies and entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka have contributed significantly in furthering bilateral trade and economic ties,” he said. The envoy was of the view that this forum will enhance the substantive economic engagement in terms of mutually beneficial trade and investment and create a win win situation for both countries. “India is Sri Lanka’s leading trade partner and bilateral trade between the two nations has now risen to the US$ 5 billion mark,” Sinha said. He added that India has become Sri Lanka’s foremost development partner in public investment strategy through the provision of assistance and credit totalling US$ 1.75 billion. Indian CEO Forum President Sanjay Tiwari said India and Sri Lanka agreed to expand bilateral trade to the tune of US$ 10 billion within three years and the Indian investment in Sri Lanka is rapidly growing. He said the CEO can also assist the government in attracting more Indian investment to Sri Lanka.
