Indian Extension Network (IEN) launched A meeting of Indian extension professionals drawn from different agencies viz government, private sector, NGOs, agricultural Universities etc was held on 26th August, 2014 at Hyderabad under the newly formed network “INDIAN EXTENSION NETWORK” (IEN). The meeting was held at the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE)-the apex organization for agricultural extension under the Ministry of Agriculture (Government of India). The meeting was organized by Dr P Chandrasekara, Director (Agricultural Extension), MANAGE & Dr Mahesh Chander, Principal Scientist & Head, Division of Extension Education, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) who are the Indian Focal Points of AESA (Agricultural Extension in South Asia). The meeting was addressed by Dr Rasheed Sulaiman V, GFRAS Chair & AESA Co-ordinator, who spoke on the global extension scenario, the activities of GFRAS and its regional networks including AESA and the establishment of country chapters/networks under the different regional/sub-regional networks. The meeting discussed issues related to governance of IEN, its structure and functions, priorities it should address, resource mobilization etc. The participants appreciated the importance of a network like IEN in the Indian context and discussed several aspects related to professionalizing extension in the country and how IEN should add value to the existing initiatives. It was decided to continue this discussion and consultation for another month and to come up with a broader country level dialogue that include all those interested and involved in extension and advisory provision in different parts of the country. Dr P Chandrasekara & Dr Mahesh Chander assured the participants that the IEN would contribute to professsionalising extension and would organize activities to achieve this in collaboration with AESA (Agricultural Extension in South Asia (AESA) and Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services(GFRAS). .
