Indian National champion and World championship Gold Medalist Sarita Devi refused to accept her bronze medal at the prize giving ceremony of the 57-60 kg (Lightweight) category held at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Sarita was declared the loser after her semifinal bout against Ji Na Park of South Korea despite dominating the bout at Incheon on Tuesday. The controversy took place in the third round as the Indian battered Park with her punches but Judges B and C awarded the round 10-9 in favour of the host fighter while Judge A gave the round 10-9 to Sarita. Refusing to wear the bronze medal around her neck, Sarita accepted the medal in her hand and wiped her tears holding it, before handing it to South Korean silver medalist Ji Na Park, amid loud boos by the Indians present at the ceremony at Incheon.Sarita had won a silver in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year An emotional Sarita slammed Indias boxing officials too. Soon after the medal ceremony drama, Sarita said: It has been 24 hours and not one official has come to speak with me and ask me if I am fine. They just come here to take photos with medallists and nothing else.
