Indian coal giant Adani is no stranger to causing horrific environmental damage and now they’re doing it again -- putting one of the most precious places on Earth at risk. And India’s state bank could be about to give them a billion dollars to help -- but we can stop them. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee says Adani’s plans place the Great Barrier Reef in danger, with a massive industrial coal port threatening critical pristine corals and turtle nesting grounds. The State Bank of India is taxpayer-owned, and its recently made a string of bad deals. Now the Chairman of the Board has declared “war on bad loans”, but this billion dollar boondoggle could be the worst of them. What stands between the Reef and disaster is people power. It’s already stopped global banking superpowers like Citigroup and Deutsche Bank from funding the project, and now it can stop the State Bank of India.
