Indian power to cost 1 paise per unit more as CIL hikes fares: Times of India reported that power tariffs across the country are likely to go up marginally by 1 paise per unit, as a result of state run CIL raising fares for transporting coal from mines to loading points. The coal monopolist raised the fare to INR 57 per tonne for cases where loading points are 3 kiloteter to 10 kilometer from mines against INR 44 a tonne earlier. For a distance of more than 10 kilometer but not more than 20 kilometer, the fare would be INR 116 per tonne. The revised rates would be applicable from November 14th. This is the first revision being implemented by CIL since 2009. The fares are being revised to offset the impact of increase in diesel prices and wage costs. The company had in May raised prices of lower grades of coal by an average of 10% and reduced rates of higher grades by an average of 12%. The company said that “For undertaking special sizing or beneficiation of coal, additional charges as may be negotiated between the purchaser and the producer may be realized over and above the pithead prices.” Source – Times of India
