Indian solar manufacturing industry is lacking scale. The maximum single capacity of a manufacturing set-up in India is 200MW for solar module. But in China, the minimum set-up is 1.5GW (1500MW). This is making Indian module manufacturers less competitive. If India has to restrict investors to buy Indian modules for subsidized schemes, then incentives has to be provided for setting-up not only solar module, but also solar cell and solar wafer manufacturing plants in the country.
