Indian woman survives leopard attack after fighting predator for 30 minutes An Indian villager survived a leopard attack after fighting off the animal with her farm tools.Kamla Devi, 56, used a sickle and a spade to kill the leopard after it pounced on her as she walked home. Courageous Kamla Devi, 56, battled the spotted predator for more than 30 minutes in the northern state of Uttarakhand, eventually killing it with a sickle and small spade. She was carrying water from a canal to her crop field in the village of Sem Nauti on August 24 when the leopard pounced from a bush. “The leopard lunged at me many times and we fought for a long time, she told Indian broadcaster CNN-IBN. “I got hold of my sickle and fought with it. Thats when the leopard was killed. The tenacious mother-of-one is recovering in hospital after suffering major blood loss, deep cuts and fractures during the terrifying ordeal. I gathered my courage to fight back. I promised myself that this is not my last day here,” she told the Hindustan Times. She was taken to hospital after walking half-a-mile for help. Doctors who treated Ms Devi, a recent widow, said they were surprised she had survived the attack. The dead animal was later found on the outskirts of the village. Leopards are increasingly venturing into populated areas as their habitat becomes depleted. The Telegraph
