Indiana.. has a leader in the Legislature.. named BRIAN BOSMA. If he is truly interested in ethics?... he could have started with a better choice for House Floor Leader. The vacancy, ironically, was created when Rep. Bill Friend, R-Macy, was named to the speaker pro tem post vacated by the ethically challenged P. ERIC TURNER, the Cicero Republican who earlier this year rallied opposition to a measure threatening his financial interests in nursing home developments. When the conflict came to light, BOSMA stripped Turner of his powerful leadership position. Friend, a respected lawmaker, is a solid pick as Turners replacement. BUT BOSMA ANNOUNCED ON WEDNESDAY ( day after election) that Rep. Jud McMillin will become floor leader. The BROOKVILLE attorney has faced ethic questions every bit as worrisome as Turners. The INDIANAPOLIS STAR in 2013 reported that McMillin resigned from the Lawrenceburg Regional Grant Committee as an FBI investigation looked into allegations that he and other government officials recommended grants from riverboat casino funds to companies with which they had undisclosed financial or family ties. In McMillins case, he supported a grant for $600,000 to DESTINATION BROOKVILLE, a company he started in August 2010. While he had removed himself from the company before the grant committee considered the measure, he did not disclose that his mother and family friends still had control of the company. He also supported a $500,000 grant for a company without disclosing that his law firm was its legal counsel. Invoices showed his firm received about $3,200 for title work and other services related to the project. BOSMA HAD 69 OTHER REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MEMBERS TO CHOOSE FROM IN FILLING THE LEADERSHIP POST.
