‘Indians are not targeted’ The Ambassador of India Shri Satish C. Mehta held a meeting on June 13, 2013, with about 35 prominent representatives of Indian community in Kuwait from various parts of India to discuss concerns about ongoing checking by the authorities in Kuwait. During the meeting he briefed the community leaders about the efforts being made by the Embassy of India in this regard. He also informed them that senior Kuwaiti authorities have assured that the Indian community is not being targeted and that the drive is against illegal expatriates and law- breakers. A question-answer session was also held during the meeting and a number of doubts, apprehensions and fears cleared. The ambassador also informed the community leaders that the Kuwait authorities have conveyed strict instructions to ensure that there is no harassment or improper treatment of the expatriates by those undertaking checking. The embassy has also set up a helpline exclusively for the Indian expatriates to intimate to the embassy about any improper treatment during checking. The Ambassador urged community members to abide by Kuwaiti laws, rules and regulations. He assured the community members that the embassy is doing everything possible for them.
