Indians searched more for Sunny Leone than PM Modi in 2014 General Election 2014 and PM Narendra Modi may have been the talk of town this year, but it is somebody else that Indians googled most this year. In its year end review, which gives insight into how Indian web users used the worlds most popular search engine, Google India revealed that Sunny Leone topped the list for most searched personalities in India. In fact, Leone was so popular that Bollywood film Ragini MMS 2, in which she was the lead actor, was at number one in the list of trending movies. Though Indian web users also gave ample attention to the politics of the day with Election 2014 topping the list of Trending Search for the year. Google said that other topics like mystery of Malaysia Airlines 370 and death of Sunanda Pushkar also captured Indias attention. The findings of Googles Year in Search is a clear testimony of Indias growing interest in issues of national importance. The 2014 Lok Sabha elections pointed to the power of digital media and also to the unprecedented demand for information, said Rajan Anandan, managing director of Google India. PM Narendra Modi may have lost the first place to Sunny Leone but he succeeded in defeating others as Bollywood biggies like Salman Khan, Katerina Kaif, and Shahrukh Khan. Modi was the second most searched personality in India in the year 2014. He was also the first politician to have gained more search popularity than entertainment personalities this year.
