Indigenous Writers Mentorship Program The NSW Writers’ Centre is delighted to announce a new mentorship program for emerging Indigenous writers, with the support of Arts NSW. The program is designed to support emerging writers in any genre who have had no more than one full-length work professionally published or performed, but who have made substantial progress on a writing project. It will pair five emerging Indigenous writers from New South Wales with a senior Indigenous writer in the same genre for a structured year-long mentorship. The five writers and their mentors will be invited to an initial one-day meeting at the NSW Writers’ Centre on 30 November 2013. The day will incorporate group and one-on-one sessions between mentors and the emerging writers. Each writer will then receive 20 hours of mentorship over the following 12 months, including feedback on their work in progress and general advice on writing and getting work published or performed. At the end of the year, the five writers will be invited to return to the Writers’ Centre to appear at a major public event. Writers from outside the Sydney region will have their travel costs paid to allow them to attend the two gatherings at the Writers’ Centre. The mentorships are available to emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander writers who are resident in New South Wales. Applicants must be over the age of 18 and proof of Indigenous status may be required. Applications close 15 September 2013.
