Indigenous leaders have hit out at the Federal Government in the wake of delays in the allocation of billions of dollars in funding under its Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS). As reported yesterday, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) has extended the assessment process for grantseekers applying for funds through the IAS until March next year. In the meantime, bridging funding has been provided to current service providers to help them maintain services. Late yesterday Warren Mundine - Prime Minister Tony Abbotts chief indigenous adviser - described as deeply flawed funding processes for Aboriginal groups. He told The Australian newspaper he would be raising his concerns directly with the PM. Also critical was National convener of the ­National Family Violence Prevention Legal Services, Antoinette Braybrook, who said there had been a lack of consultation with indigenous groups.
