Individuals in our economy have free speech, but it seems as though corporations and those who are in the executive suite and the board room have free screech, their voices drowning out those of us who are speaking at volumes limited by our resources for investing. Why is a country - Australia - that has only about 8% of the population of the United States so far ahead of us with regard to fairness in compensation? It is shameful that our executives - with a few notable exceptions - have no shame about enriching themselves without concern for the common good. And we who are getting the short end of the stick in that regard should be ashamed for allowing our legislators to write the laws that let them get away with it and with failing to write the laws that will inject some equity into the system. It is not a matter of the rest of us getting something for nothing; it is a matter of those at the top getting overpaid for the value they create, which is bad business.
