Individuals will be required to obtain minimum essential health coverage for themselves and their dependents by January 1st, 2014 or pay a monthly penalty tax for each month without coverage. The penalty is either $95 per individaul (capped at $285 per famiy) or 1% of your gross household income. The penalty for individuals or families below 133% of the federal poverty level has been postponed until 2015.
