Indoctrination of the people ------------------------------------------ Listening to a patriotic song on radio, Door hato aye duniya walo, hindustan hamara hai this evening, I wondered if people realise the extent to which this indoctrination damages the citizens of the country. From blind hatred of the whole nation across the border to the subjugation of human rights and liberties of the people living on our side of the border to wholesale paranoia about gaddar musalmans, chalak baniya hindus and of course the eternal favourite enemies on both sides, the angrejs and the amreekis, this indoctrination wrecks the lives of the very people it seeks to unite and protect. It was this nationalism that had India and Pakistan play some really dirty games of politics and military adventurism in the early part of our independent existence. It was this nationalism that caused the murder and death of tens of thousand as the two nations used all the tricks of the trade to acquire princely states they decided should belong to them. It is the same nationalism that had India shame itself in Kashmir, Hyderabad and a few other places. It is the same nationalism that had Pakistan surrender itself to the dark forces over the last 42 years. The same reason that Pakistan lies to its people about the realities of 1948, 1965, 1971 and 1999 while India lies to its people about all those as well as 1962. It is the reason India lies to its people about the real story of our conflict with China while Pakistan covers up the role of its security forces in East Pakistan and Balochistan. That is why India can not solve its solve its problems with China without a major revision of history we teach ourselves, India and Pakistan can not solve the Kashmir issue and Pakistan can not eliminate the terrorism infrastructure that has taken root deep within its territory These are Frankenstein that we have created for ourselves while deluding ourselves into believing that the patriotic songs are an effective way of uniting our nations, something that is far more important than combating poverty, social maladies and brutal violations of human rights of the people we pretend to be defending and serving
