Indonesian Police Kill Two Suspected Terrorists, Capture Two Others Wall Street Journal (07/22/13) Otto, Ben; Hariyanto, Joko Indonesian counterterrorism police on July 22 ambushed a group of four suspected terrorists while they waited for public transportation along a road in eastern Java. Gunfire was exchanged after one of the men pulled a gun out of a backpack and began shooting at officers. Two of the men were killed in the firefight, while the other two were captured and are being questioned. Police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar revealed that the backpack in question also contained a home made bomb. Amar also revealed that all four men were suspected of having links to Santoso, the leader of the militant group Mujahidin Indonesia Timur and a former member of the Southeast Asian branch of al-Qaida, Jemaah Islamiyah. They were also linked to a suicide bombing in central Sulawesi island in June, a region where counterterrorism police have been focusing their efforts of late.
