Induldge me if you will. You FB friends of mine know how I drop random curiosity on you all the time so this should be no surprise. Ive been researching self-sustainability. You know like the Biosphere 2 experiment in Arizona. Correction, the failed Biosphere 2 experiment as journalists are so thrilled to report. It failed because the oxygen levels eventually dropped to 14% instead of our current 21% and the CO2 levels rose to a poisonous level. Also the Ocean became too acidic, most of the vertebrea species died, it became overrun with insects, and all sorts of failures. I wondered why these scientists didnt consult NASA and join forces. This autonomous ecosystem is really difficult to sustain. Their model, the Earth, has an external energy source, an atmosphere, wind, rain, flowing water, hundreds of vast and microscopic ecosystems and a sort of organized chaos. Its a miracle really, that the right ratio of unsurmountable, coincidences and probabilities happened to form on this planet for us to survive. If you think for a second about inserting God into this discussion you are missing the point and dont belong here. I respect the harmony you have with your maker but this thread is an effort to explore whether it is possible to get into a space ship and keep our species from extinction perpetually. God will not splice an atom for us or filter your human waste and reuse it. Got me? Ok, go!
