Industrial Revolution About 200 years ago great changes began to take place with the beginnings of machinery and a manufacturing industry that took over from primitive farming and handicrafts. Consequently, these changes helped bring about what is often described as the “Industrial Revolution”, which began in England and eventually spread to all parts of the world. The Industrial Revolution was a transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from 1760 to 1820 and 1840 CE. The Industrial Revolution was powered by the Capitalist creed. Many historians agree that the Industrial Revolution is the greatest event in the history of mankind after the Cognitive and Agriculture revolutions when Homo sapiens mastered communication and domesticated plants and animals. The Industrial Revolution gave people inexpensive and abundant energy and raw materials that resulted in the explosion of productivity and immense wealth for the new manufacturers and industrialists, thereby creating a new class of capitalists. This revolutionalised the Transport, Textile, Power, and Metallurgical industry. However, the Industrial Revolution also brought about the rural to urban migration for employment that caused congestion in the cities, exploitation of labor, etc. Friedrich Engels the German philosopher and thinker writes in his book “The condition of the working class in England” in 1844 about the revolution that changed the whole of the society due to the emergence of a new class of landless workers with nothing to their name but the wages they were able to earn by their own labor and the newly created Industrial proletariat. The credit for the coinage of the term Industrial Revolution largely goes to Engels.
