Inequality Between Women and Men Issues On May 16, 2005, the World Economic Forum released its first study that attempted to quantify the size of the “gender gap” in 58 countries. The study measured the size of the gap between women and men in five critical areas—economic participation, economic opportunity, political empowerment, educational attainment, and health and well-being. Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, and Finland were ranked at the top of the list, while the United States ranked 17 out of the 58 countries included in the study.
