Inflammation damages tissues when it is chronic, even if its just mild. Its an important contributor to many diseases, and definitely the primary cause behind some eg auto-immune disease, heart disease etc. the primary dietary causes of inflammation are animal products (meat, fish, dairy, eggs), wheat/gluten, and refined sugar. Refined sugar includes fruit juices- when you take the fibre out of whole foods you intensify and unbalance the sugars which makes them toxic/inflammatory.
